Heartburn relief is sought by millions everyday. Heartburn is one of the most common diseases affecting almost 20% of the population at least once a month. Having a bout of acid reflux can be an uncomfortable experience. It’s because of the involved symptoms. This can be a recurring problem when triggered. Fortunately for you, it’s possible to attain heartburn relief naturally.

The cause of this issue is the irritation of the esophagus, in particular the nerves found in it, because of acid flowing out of the stomach. To solve the problem, acid has to be diluted. Do this by taking 1 to 2 glasses of water. For extra acid neutralizing effect, add a tablespoon of baking soda. Stir well and drink. Baking soda is known to be a natural antacid.

Some people swear by taking a glass of milk. Immediately, you will feel the discomfort go away. Your saliva can also help in diluting excess acid in the stomach. To promote saliva production, chew gum. Go for something sugarless.

It is said that there are also fruits effective in combating the symptoms. Whenever they’re bugging you, have a serving of banana. Take it right after meals to avoid the problem form surfacing. Apple will do in case no banana is found in the kitchen.

Coating the esophagus with mucilage can soothe the irritation. This can also protect it against acid. Mucilage, when mixed with water, expands and assumes a gel-like consistency. Marshmallow is a great source of mucilage. It’s not only excellent for toasting, but also for acid reflux. You may also go for slippery elm and attain the same results.

Another way to soothe an irritated esophagus is by drinking aloe vera juice. The one you’re going to consume should be something found at the grocery. Don’t directly take the gel inside a fresh leaf. If you adore tea, go for fennel or chamomile instead of the usual. Sip the beverage slowly, making sure it’s neither too cold or hot.

Certain studies revealed that one of the triggers of acid reflux is stress. If your everyday schedule is always a busy one, find ways to deal with stress at the end of the day. It can be tricky to completely avoid stress, so what you can do is effectively manage it. You have lots of options: having mild exercise, watching a comedy movie, reading a book and others.

Aside from looking for ways to solve the problem when it’s already there, try to avoid encountering it. Record the food you eat to know what your specific triggers are. Most people avoid spices, greasy food, chocolates, tomatoes and citrus fruits. Steer clear of triggers once you’re familiar with them. As much as possible, limit your consumption of beverages that are carbonated, caffeinated and with alcohol content.

Eating small meals rather than large ones also helps. Make sure that the last meal you took was 2 to 3 hours ago before going to bed. Speaking of which, elevate the upper portion of your bed by placing blocks under the headboard legs.

Because the symptoms of heartburn somewhat resemble having a heart attack, it’s important that you let your doctor know about it immediately. Even if it’s just acid reflux, certain complications may occur, so better have it treated. You don’t have to live with heartburn, there are a lot of options available to get heartburn relief.
