Confusion about working out?

I’ve been working out for two weeks and I apparently gained 4 pounds. My diet has not changed at all. Why am I gaining weight? This is the first time I’ve started going to a gym, so I don’t know what the states my body goes through when first going to a gym and actually working out.

Well two weeks is not very long. Any changes you will see are still down the road.
Your goal, of course, is to lose fat and gain muscle. But muscle weighs more than fat! So if you do it right you might lose inches but not necessarily pounds. If your goal is simply to lose weight, you might be disappointed. You’ll have to be happy with just being thinner, stronger, looking and feeling better, and being healthier in general. But that’s not so bad, is it?

You’re gaining muscle. Although easy to understand, measuring your weight is one way to determine your overall fitness.
The “pinch test” measuring overall body fat is a better indicator, but should be only measured over longer durations.
Your body is getting healthier, and although it seems the opposite of what should happen, it will gain weight when it converts the fat energy you have to muscle. Fat takes more space because it contains more water around it compared to muscle.
Since you probably can’t perform the pinch test at home, you should do something similar, but on a personal basis. Find a pair of jeans (new or used from your collection) which have always been too tight for you – occasionally put them on and see how tight they are now. If you’re performing well at the gym, eventually the fat around your midsection should condense further and jeans should be no longer tight.
The hips don’t lie.

If there is no change in intake of food, it is unusual.
Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.
Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.
U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry.
